Everybody is welcome to try these questions. Better solutions will be posted here and credited to you, of course.

Dec. 8th -- from Arnold

I worked on the 2010 test.

I had trouble with #2,#7,#10,#12,#15,#17,#18,#20. After another try I got questions 2 and 10.

Thanks. Arnold

Q # 7 : hint : angle ratio or pythagorean theorem.

12/10 Beatrice ; 12/11 Ben solved this question.

Q # 12 : hint : dimensional change

12/10 Beatrice ; 12/11 Ben solved this question.

Q #15 : Logic -- If you have questions, e-mail me, but we're not going to discuss this in class.

12/11 Ben solved this question.

Q #17: Use Lego or draw the image to help you visualize.

12/10 Beatrice ; 12/11 Ben solved this question.

Q #18 : Not yet.

Q #20 : It's not too bad. Think !!

12/11 Beatrice has outlined the solution and she has the right approach. Cool !!

Dec. 9th, from Bryce

Thank you for the email.  Bryce spends at Least __  hours on math per day on weekend right now. There are still up and downs with some of the practices for him. He knows he has to work very hard in order to go to State for mathcounts in next spring.
He did mathcounts hand book 2014-2015 warm up 15 on Sunday. He got 4 questions right: 213, 217, 218, and 219. After reviewing the solutions, he understands why he did wrong with 215 and 220, learned how to solve 212 and 214, but still don't understand 211 and 216. Can you go over 211 and 216 during his class?

YES !! Of course !!

Q #211 : In how many ways can the vertices of an equilateral triangle be colored with four available colors? Two colorings are considered the same if they can be obtained from each other by any combination of rotations and reflections.

Q#216 : Let P(n) denote the probability that a randomly selected n-digit number contains the digits 42, adjacent and in that order, among its digits. Two 4-digit examples are 3422 and 4205. What is the absolute difference between P(2) and P(3)? Express your answer as a common fraction.

12/10 Beatrice ; 12/11 Ben solved this question

Dec. 11th, 2014

Hi Mrs.Lin,

I did the 2014 AMC 10B first 20 questions and I got 15/20 correct. The questions I got wrong were: #13, #15, #17, #18,and #19. Could you help me with those questions during our Sunday Night class or on the BlogSpot?

Thanks,

Q #13 : You have all the tools. Hints : equilateral triangle, special right triangle.

12/11 Ben, Beatrice solved this question.

Q #15 : Tool : special right triangle. This one has multiple solutions. Let's see if you have the Harvey method.

Q#17: Hint : taking out the factors first. Number theory.

Q#18: mean, median, mode questions are tricky and it's easy to miss, so skip this one first and get those easier to get, seemingly harder questions first. You can always come back to this later when you have time.

12/11 Ben solved this question.

Category : ambiguous question, need some testing and in a tense situation, very easy to get it wrong.

Q#20: This one is not too bad. Algebra (basic factoring) Number theory. Evaluate the roots.

I was doing the mathcounts handbook  14-15 and I couldn't figure out numbers 223 and 225. There are no solutions so can you please explain these to me? I attached the problems.
   Thanks,
   Swetha
